Tax Credit
The School Tax Credit is a dollar for dollar subtraction from your AZ State Income tax
liability. This is NOT a donation.
How it works ~ When you file AZ State Income tax either subtract the amount of your
contribution from what you owe or add the amount to your refund, i.e. You owe $500,
subtract $400=$100 owed. If you get a refund, you can also participate. Your refund may
increase depending on your State Income tax liability. It’s like pre-paying your taxes and
“keeping the money locally at the school and activity of your choice”. You pay now and
take your receipt to your tax preparer.
Participation ~ Married people filing jointly can participate up to $400 and singles can
participate up to $200, plus your family and friends around the state can have their tax
credit funds credited to the local school of your choice. 100% of your tax credit dollars will
go to the local school and the extra-curricular activity of your choice. Tax credit money is
used to help activities like music, drama, art, field trips, sports and many extra-curricular
clubs at all schools. If you don’t participate your taxes go to Phoenix and NOT to your
local schools!
Easy to do ~ Fill out a tax credit form, choose the school and activity you wish to help. If
you don’t have a specific activity you’re interested in, you can select NO-PREFERENCE.
A receipt will be issued so you can use it to prepare your taxes or take to your tax
preparer.
Deadline ~ The deadline for accepting tax credit forms and payments is December 31st of
each year. You can either mail or drop your form & payment off at the school.
